While vaccines for COVID-19 are still being developed, Fraser Health is urging people to receive immunization shots for the more familiar influenza virus.

Last Friday the health authority launched their annual flu vaccine campaign to remind people of the importance of getting their flu shot this year.

Fraser Health stated that by getting a flu shot, following physical distancing measures, washing hands, and wearing a mask, people can ensure they are keeping themselves and their loved ones safe.

“Since COVID-19 is continuing to impact communities in our region, it is important to also remember that good COVID-19 sense makes for good flu sense, too,” said Fraser Health in a news release.

This year, immunizing facilities are asking that people book an appointment to get a flu shot in order to ensure physical distancing is maintained.

In Delta, flu vaccinations are distributed in the following locations:

·       London Drugs Trenant Park Mall

·       Save-on-Foods Pharmacy

·       Pharmasave Ladner

·       Harris Barn South Delta

·       South Delta Public Health Unit

·       Shoppers Drug Mart

·       The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy Tsawwassen

Fraser Health stresses that flu shots are safe, effective, and recommended for everyone six months of age and older.

Vaccinations are free for all children between six months and four years old, seniors 65 years old and older, pregnant women, Indigenous people and individuals with chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems.

People who work or live with people who have a higher risk of complications from the flu and visitors to health care facilities are also eligible for a free vaccine.
