Heads up Tsawwassen (and all of Delta) - if you leave your garage door opener in your car, Delta police recommend you either park in your garage, or at a minimum lock your vehicle.

On Jan. 18 a break in was reported to a Tsawwassen home, which occurred overnight between 2 and 4 a.m. while the home was occupied. A dog likely scared off the intruder by barking, however in the morning the homeowner discovered a number of items were stolen, including electronics and ID.

According to police, thieves entered an unlocked vehicle parked at the home, and used the garage door opener to open the garage and enter the home.

“This is no doubt very disturbing for the homeowner, and our officers are actively investigating this,” said DPD public affairs coordinator Cris Leykauf. “In case the suspects decide to try this again we wanted the community’s help to reduce their chances of finding other unlocked vehicles with garage door openers.”
