Good Samaritans helped an elderly woman in Ladner Sunday afternoon and in the process helped nab an alleged purse snatcher.

Delta police were called to the Trenant Park Square after an elderly person had her purse stolen out of her shopping cart while she was unloading groceries into her car.

Police say the 90-year-old victim yelled for help after seeing a young woman run off with her purse.

“Several good Samaritans jumped in to help give chase and caught the suspect,” said Delta police on their Facebook page. “The stolen purse was recovered, an arrest made and charges pending.”

Charges pending against theft suspect

An alleged theft from auto suspect in the North Delta area has been arrested and is facing numerous charges.

In the early morning hours of Saturday an officer was conducting patrols in North Delta in the 8800 block of 120th Street and observed a vehicle with the driver's door open and two legs dangling out of the vehicle. This peaked the officer's interest and he approached to investigate further.
“When the suspect saw the officer he attempted to flee on a bike but wasn't expecting a reserve constable (who was riding with the DPD member) to be on the other side of the vehicle. At that point the suspect dropped the bike and finally followed police commands and was taken into custody,” said police.

According to DPD, the suspect is no stranger to accessing vehicles that don't belong to him. He is currently on conditions that include a curfew and not to 'touch' a vehicle without the registered owner present.

The suspect was held in custody and faces charges that include, theft and breach of conditions.
