One of two residents from KinVillage, that tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, has sadly passed away.

KinVillage confirmed the news on Monday afternoon after sharing on Saturday evening that two residents in South Court tested positive for COVID-19.

“Sadly, one of these residents died yesterday,” said KinVillage Association’s CEO Donna Ellis in a news release. “This is heartbreaking news for our KinVillage community. Our deepest condolences are with the resident’s family and friends. We share their sorrow though not their deep loss.”

On Sept. 3, a COVID-19 outbreak was declared in KinVillage South Court after one staff member tested positive. The infected staff member remains isolated at home.

Ellis said that as of Monday morning, there are no new COVID-19 positive cases in South Court.

She said KinVillage does, however, have a large volume of outstanding test results for residents and staff who were swabbed on the weekend. These swabs were taken at the direction of Fraser Health as a precautionary measure after the two residents tested positive on Saturday.

A number of restrictive measures including visits, will remain in place at South Court for the duration of the outbreak.

“We understand the negative impacts these restrictions have on our residents and their families,” said Ellis. “The measures are however necessary given the highly contagious nature of COVID-19 and consequences that can be deadly. We are grateful for the dedication and skills of our staff, augmented by additional expertise and significant resources being provided by Fraser Health. Fraser Health specialists are on-site daily assessing with KinVillage management the evolving situation, reviewing outbreak measures, conducting audits, and providing guidance and support to staff.”

KinVillage says they will continue to provide information and regular updates, particularly to those most directly impacted by this outbreak.

“We thank the public for their patience and continued support as we manage this situation and focus on our priority of ensuring the safety of those we serve as well as our staff,” added Ellis.

KinVillage’s other residences, West Court/Care Home, North Court and Vidal Court, are not affected by the outbreak in South Court.
