Will there be a Ladner Village Market this year? That is still to be determined according to Market organizers as they work with the City of Delta on final approvals.

In an update post on their website, market dates are scheduled now for July 12 & 26, Aug. 9 & 23 and Sept. 13.

“As of May 15, the Ladner Village Market is working towards final approvals to open as an Essential Food only market under the guidelines of the government. We will update this site with specific details as we have them,” said market managers on their website.

Last Thursday (May 28), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry amended some of the restrictions previously in place on how vending markets could open.

“The provincial health officer order for vending markets, such as farmer’s markets has been amended to allow for the sale of non-food items and for tables for eating, ensuring a safe distance is maintained,” said Henry. “The restrictions on food handling, safe physical distancing, following hand hygiene and signage at these markets are still in place.

“This slow and thoughtful approach is our new normal. It is grounded in what we know about COVID-19 today, and will continue to be adapted as we learn more in the weeks and months ahead.”

Market managers told the Optimist in an email late last week that they are awaiting final approvals for the Essential Food only market and once approval has been granted, the market will release details about how the market will change this year, the new rules that will be in place and clarification about operating as an Essential Food only market.

“The Ladner Village Market will not be the same market experience the community has seen in the past. It will be greatly reduced in terms of vendors, attendance, entrance and exit, and time spent in the market area,” market managers said.
