That idea was brought up at the most recent meeting of the Ladner Village renewal advisory committee.

During a discussion with staff, it was noted short-term and long-term measures should be established in order to address current and future parking needs.

One of the suggestions brought forward was the possibility of reducing parking limits from three hours to two hours. The change would be implemented along 48th Avenue and along a stretch of Delta Street between 48th Avenue and Trenant Street.

It was also suggested that bylaw enforcement should be increased to assist with parking changes and that business patrons be encouraged to use other forms of transportation, such as walking or biking.

It was also noted the three public parking lots in the vicinity, which have about 100 stalls in total, should be better advertised and utilized.

Potential longer-term measures include engaging with the province to discuss the underutilization of Ladner Harbour Park, including looking at the idea of a pedestrian foot bridge.

Committee members noted the perception about the lack of parking in the village can be addressed through enforcement, better signage as well as educating employees where they should park.

It’s not the first time the parking situation was explored.

The downtown Ladner waterfront redevelopment advisory committee looked at options almost a decade ago, including the suggestion for Delta council look at "low cost" parking options such as 30-minute and three-hour parking limits, timed parking stalls or meters.

A Delta parking review in 2003 found Ladner businesses were not in favour of pay parking as a management tool. The three-hour limits were supported and implemented in 2013.
