The City of Delta wants to know who is utilizing its parks.

During the past week, cameras were set up by Delta in four park locations, which will move to another four parks this weekend.

The cameras, and accompanying signage caused quite a stir earlier this week in the Tsawwassen Loop Facebook group with many speculating why the cameras were placed in the first place.

“By in large we don’t generally put cameras in parks,” said Delta’s director of parks and rec Ken Kuntz. “We do have cameras on the inside and outside of all recreation facilities to monitor the parking lots for security and safety purposes. In this instance we have the cameras in place as number counters because we want to know how much usage there is in the park.”
