San Juan Cruises' Salish Express will now be sailing from Point Roberts directly to the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in Fairhaven on Tuesdays and Fridays.

It’s increased sailings and now directly to Bellingham for the Point Roberts ferry, starting this week.

The complimentary foot passenger service was launched last month by the Port of Bellingham and the Whatcom Transportation Authority to provide Point Roberts’ residents entry into the continental United States without having to come through Canada.

It was initially to Blaine with bus transportation provided to Bellingham.

Due to high demand, the ferry will now offer sailings on Tuesdays and Fridays. It will also be two-hour trips to the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in the Fairhaven District.

The ferry will depart from Bellingham at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Point Roberts departures are at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Reservations are currently being accepted until the end of September with passengers having to secure spots on both legs of the trip on the Port of Bellingham website

San Juan Cruises’ 100-foot vessel Salish Express is being utilized for the service with a capacity of 60.

The U.S./Canada border has been closed to non-essential travel since March and border restrictions have been extended through at least Sept. 21.
