Timbits and Double-Doubles are getting closer for Ladner residents.
Site work began this week on a Tim Hortons drive-thru restaurant on a vacant lot adjacent to the Otter Co-Op gas station on Ladner Trunk Road at 64th Street.
Southborough Investments has been trying to build the restaurant since 2014. The proximity of the drive-thru to nearby homes and the hours of operation were sticking points for city council, which rejected an initial proposal.
A second proposal that included a higher fence and reduced hours of operation was received more favourably. The lone dissenting vote was Coun. Jeannie Kanakos, who also voted against the original application. She said it’s not reasonable to allow vehicles to be emitting exhaust just a few feet from someone’s back yard.
The rest on council supported the application, saying there’s no evidence the business would cause any significant problem when it comes to emissions.
Delta doesn’t have a formal policy when it comes to drive-thrus, considering applications on a case-by-case basis.
