I recently received a notice at my door from those people trying to stop the development of the final phase of Marina Gardens. I do not know enough about the project to comment on it, but I do know I am tired of those in South Delta trying to block any and all development.

They use fear mongering tactics like "more people in the Marina Gardens means more cars and your children won't be safe walking to school."

There are cars driving all over Ladner, every day and all day, and assuming everyone follows the rules of the road, our children are safe.

If these people have a problem with the development, then argue the merits of the project; the quality of the housing, the lack of parking, etc.

We can't complain about declining school enrollment, businesses closing down and lack of shopping choices and be against all development.

They are connected. If we want growth, we need people to move to Ladner, people that have children to put in school, that shop and eat at restaurants.

Let's focus on bringing quality projects to Ladner. Why create these narrow "lanes" of houses with no street parking? The reason, of course, is because the developers want to put a few more houses in the neighbourhood rather than offering a suitable amount of parking for the residents.

They want more money and municipal hall lets them get away with it.

So maybe we can all compromise. Let's shoot for growth that benefits us all with the least amount of impact and a reasonable profit for developers.
