Re: Little control over siting of cell antennas, June 6

Once again the people of South Delta are under attack. This time it is the seniors that now must deal with enhanced cell phone towers over their heads as they go about their daily business.

Do people remember when a cell tower was proposed to be installed near the border and was rejected? And then the church at 6th Avenue and 56th Street was slated to receive a tower that didn't go ahead.

Even though the use of cell phones and wireless technology is sprouting up around us faster than a crop of invasive weeds on steroids, scientific research is also linking the increase in brain tumors and human cancers to the radiation that is given off by these technologies.

At the May AGM for the B.C. Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils, two resolutions concerning microwave wireless radiation technology in schools were unanimously passed.

Resolution 17 is calling for "at least one school at each education level (elementary, middle, secondary) to be free of Wi-Fi, cordless phones and cell phones and to be only equipped with wired computers and wired telephones for personal, educational and administrative purposes."

Resolution 18 is calling on boards of education to "cease to install Wi-Fi and other wireless networks in schools where other networking technology is feasible."

If installing cell antennas on residential buildings is a "for profit" endeavour, then shame on those for allowing this unnecessary exposure to EMF to occur. We all know the World Health Organization for exposure to EMF is out of date and the limits set by the WHO are for short-term exposure, not long-term exposure.
