Arts recognition appreciated

When the Corporation of Delta took over the Tsawwassen Arts Centre and the Firehall Centre for the Arts this spring, I was not sure what was going to happen.

I was concerned that all the decades of work invested into the community by the Delta Arts Council (volunteers, boards of directors, committee workers and artists as well as the staff) might be lost.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see the explosion of visual and performing arts programs offered this summer and fall in the arts centres. I was thrilled to see a concert series of four performances offered in each centre.

Funds are being invested in both centres for programs, events, staff and renovations. Big kudos to the Corporation of Delta and the parks, recreation and culture department. The Delta Arts Council's legacy will be continued.

At the official re-opening of the Tsawwassen Arts Centre on Sept. 16, I had a very lovely surprise -- there was a plaque that recognized the work of the Delta Arts Council. My name was included for the cultural contribution I made for 25 years.

I was grateful the Delta Arts Council was recognized and very moved that I was included in that recognition. Thank you one and all.
