Now that summer is almost upon us and ant season is in full swing, nothing starts a conversation faster than the topic of fire ants and how to get rid of them. That’s because these tiny red or black ants are not only a nuisance but they’re also ferocious and hostile aggressors. If fire ants feel their nest is in trouble, they’ll usually move the nest to another part of the yard but not before they attack with a painful sting - causing welts or even an allergic reaction. So what is the best cure to get rid of these nasty ants. Well there are two different steps: broadcasting a bait product and treating their ant mounds with a faster acting treatment. The first step involves broad-casting a bait formulated insecticide in areas where there are many mounds, this involves treating the ant mounds at least once a year. The second step is to wait several days after applying the bait and then treating the ant colonies using an individual mound treatment method that should provide ant relief for two to six months.
