The saying “use it or lose it” is true for the whole body but as we age its even more important and it's especially important to keep our mind active.

The average human brain contains ten billion nerve cells. As the body, brain and nervous system is made up of food molecules it’s evident that our choice of food have an effect on moods and brain function. Don’t panic though you can still enjoy your favourite treats. Also don’t feel guilty eating your favourite piece of cake, muffin, chocolate or ice cream sundae, but perhaps think about cutting the portions to three small bites. Balance in all things, and keep refined sugary, fatty meals and treats to a minimum.

The secret to controlling cravings for “junk” foods and sugary things is to eat well-balanced meals and healthier snacks at regular intervals and to be sure you eat a breakfast, lunch, dinner and two to three snacks per day. Eating in this way will curb your appetite and have your body on track to maintain an eating rhythm and cycle. With consistent eating your likely getting a wide variety of foods and nutrients that your health will benefit from.

Your brain doesn’t really crave chips but it does become addicted to the foods you feed your body so instead of creating images for the nutrients it needs, it creates images for the the foods it wants. That’s why consistency in eating, balancing the nutrition that aligns with your bodies needs, and learning what are the portions that you need depending on your variables in your lifestyle can set you on the right path to a healthier lifestyle.

Remember that the right food is a medicine and a balanced diet is one of the simplest way to better health.
