Contrary to what many of us selfish and greedy human beings (read dinosaurs) would have us believe, we do not need appliances or jewelry to survive. We do not need computers or cars to survive and we do not need finances or economies to survive.
Although these are all "nice to have" add-ons, we do not need them to survive.
We do, however, need food to survive. We need water and we need air. And we do need a favourable environment to survive.
Following on with this line of thought, we do need farms; we do not need ports.
