time, Aug. 1

The sentence by the judiciary of ex-Mountie Monty Robinson is a travesty of justice and an insult to all the law-abiding citizens of Canada.

To use his aboriginal status as a benchmark for sentencing is a form of apartheid and racism in reverse.

When Robinson donned the scarlet uniform of the most respected and revered police force in the world he was no longer native by definition, but a proud Canadian as all others who serve us with their dedication to fairness and equal treatment.

The ethnicity of all who wear this uniform is no longer in question or a point to be noted, whether they are Aboriginal, South Asian, Oriental or Caucasian. All are Royal Canadian Mounted Police members worthy of respect and held to a standard higher than the general population.

For the most part this is true, and the few that stray must pay a fair penalty for transgression.

Why should we obey a law or judgment that is only administered to a certain class or kind of lawbreaker?
