I have been a South Delta resident for over 40 years, residing 20 years in Ladner and the other 20 in Tsawwassen.

My professional career is in electrical engineering for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial projects. As a result, I am in favour and a proponent of new developments, provided they are carefully planned, energy efficient and local resident friendly.

What is happening in Tsawwassen at present is exactly the opposite. It is a disgrace and it is outright disgusting.

How the Tsawwassen First Nation and governments/agencies outside of our community can undertake such massive projects - housing for 7,000 people over the next 15 years, two mega malls, industrial projects and terminal upgrades - is beyond imagination.

These developments are raping our community. They have no place in a small, residential community such as Tsawwassen and the quality of our cherished community will be lost forever.

Are local residents too naive and unable to see the unimaginable negative impacts to our community of such massive uncontrolled developments? What amazes me is the majority of local residents take this in stride without any rage, demonstrations or protests to tell the authorities that enough is enough. What does it take in Canada for people to stand up and shout out to the government that we will not stand for such abuse of power like people do in other countries around the world?
