Recently I had just exited the south end of the George Massey Tunnel and was stuck on River Road with an overheated car. What a nightmare!

After waiting a short time to see if the engine would start to cool down, I decided to take my purchases, lock up the car and walk home (approximately three to four kilometres). I am no spring chicken, but off I set.

As I was plodding along River Road towards Ladner, a car coming in the opposite direction stopped and asked if I needed a lift. The driver, who had passed me when he also exited the tunnel onto River Road, had turned his car around and had come back to give any assistance he could.

We got my car started and I drove it slowly while Dave (my knight in shining armour) drove behind me to John's Thistle Auto in Ladner where I parked it.

Dave then drove me home and when I tried to get his full name and telephone number (he lives in Ladner near the high school), he told me he was just happy to do a good turn to someone in distress.

Thanks a million, Dave, you certainly redeemed my faith in human nature.
