The Ladner business community has lost an iconic figure.

Angela Husvik, who owned Angela’s Boutique – a anchor in Ladner Village on Delta Street for the past 39 years, lost her cancer battle, passing away last weekend at the Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner.

Angela fought a brave a courageous fight the past year or so. She never wavered in her positivity through it all. She always had a smile on her face and always spoke of the positive.

I didn’t know Angela that well, just in passing or speaking with her a bit at Ladner Business Association (LBA) events or social functions.

I remember last summer’s LBA barbecue where we last had a chance to connect. She told me of her health journey and that she was determined to beat the cancer that had invaded her body. She also spoke of the store and how her friends, family and employees were doing so much to make sure the store stayed in operation and that all of her loyal customers received the same amazing level of service that they always had.

Again, always thinking about others before herself. Such an amazing outlook on life.

Owning a business anywhere these days is hard, but coming out of the pandemic, it is even harder. Angela is, was and forever will be remembered as a remarkable business leader, female entrepreneur, and a mentor to so many.

My friend Shirley Baker from Ladner United Church said it so well on a tribute post on Facebook over the weekend – “She was a huge mentor to so many young people throughout the years with all the fashion shows and fundraisers, including our Extreme Weather shelter. Angela touched the lives of almost every person in our community.”

Rest in peace Angela.
