Everyone's opinion counts regardless of your friends

Re: New citizen has ties to Southlands opposition group, letter to the editor, Nov. 21

I am stunned by the recent letter by Douglas Bolen that suggests I have no entitlement to my own opinion given that my spouse is a leader of the Southlands the Facts.

Bolen, whom I do not know a lot about as I do not have the time nor interest to search letter writers' personal profiles online, accuses me of bias and attempts to disregard what he calls my "opinion."

Have not friends of Century Group president Sean Hodgins written letters to the editor to express their "opinion?"

Who are you friends with, Bolen? Again, I wouldn't know because I don't troll the Internet. I'm a busy person.

Who you are friends with does not discount one's opinion. I was not aware that my letter was perceived as some kind of legal testimony.

For the record, Bolen is also incorrect about the use of my name. My name is indeed Ellexis Boyle and I no longer go by the additional last name Maslovat given the recent and painful death of a member of my family. I changed my name back to my original name in homage to them.

Not that this is anyone's business but the fact is, Bolen's response to my earlier letter is egregious, ignorant and creepy. I am further stunned the Optimist would publish it.

However, on the bright side, it must show my letter was a good one. Why else would someone feel the need to behave so?
