Farmland is needed for food, not freeways

I completely concur with Greg Hoover's opinion.

We are all tired of it and the stakes for our farmland are high. B.C.'s 2006 Food Self Reliance Report produced by the Ministry of Agriculture stated we would need an additional 225,000 of irrigated farmland to feed ourselves by 2025 - "land that is typically near urban centres."

We all know that since then, thousands of acres have been lost to the unnecessary South Fraser Perimeter Road and port development.

We are also aware of the rampant paving of Surrey farmland.

Clearly, we need a mayor and council that will save our farmland and only one mayoral candidate is promising to do that - Krista Engelland.
