With the warm summer weather you can have a cool refreshment on your patio without sacrificing your nutritional intake.

I love green shakes. With the versatility of a blender I can make any smoothie combination my heart desires.

Fill a high powered blender with organic romaine lettuce, organic celery, a piece of ginger, 1/2 frozen banana other frozen fruit, 1/2 frozen avocado, cup of cold filtered water or organic coconut water and a couple of ice cubes.

This is the first drink of the day and gets you energized for the hours ahead. Later I may have a bowl or steel cut oats with flax seeds, chia seeds and hemp seeds and maybe some organic currants.

I make my own almond milk as the store-bought kind most times contains additives I don't want to drink on a regular basis.

I try and consume foods that keep inflammation at bay.  I eat a lot of seeds and nuts in my diet and never worry about calories as a handful here and there really satisfy me and are super good for you for their fiber and protein.

Try and avoid acid-forming dairy products and instead eat organic goat products. They are easy to digest and our bodies recognize them as a food our body needs and processes them well.

I recommend this wonderful book about Alkaline Eating is Honestly Healthy for Life by Natash Corrett and Vicki Edgson.

Leslie Madelung graduated from Meghan Telpner's culinary course in December 2013. She started a journey of healthy eating when she suffered from acid reflux and learned her body was too acidic. Alkaline foods are easier to digest and improve immune function in the gut. She avoids any foods that contain GMO genetically altered foods.
