Forget tube, extend Canada line

Editor: Before our government spends billions of dollars replacing the George Massey Tunnel, perhaps it should consider extending the Canada Line across the Fraser River into Delta and out to the ferry terminal.

Give the average commuter a "real" alternative.

Look at any major city in the world and you'll find people will always travel the fastest way possible. If there were a park and ride for the Canada Line south of the Fraser River, people would use it because you'd be able to get into downtown Vancouver in 45 minutes or less - without the headache of fighting traffic.

If you also connect this to the ferry terminal, all of a sudden you reduce a portion of traffic volume through the tunnel. Before you know it, the TFN will have one of the biggest shopping destinations in the province. A Canada Line expansion would also give shoppers another way to get to this destination.

My proposal would mean spending less of the taxpayers' money, easing vehicle traffic through the tunnel and creating a greener environment.
