The Delta Hospital Foundation announced last week it has received a total of $16,178 in grant funding from four different sources.

Money from the First West Foundation, the Highbury Foundation, Scotiabank - Team Scotia Community Program and Warm Hearts Charitable Foundation will support the purchase of vital equipment for areas of Delta Hospital, including medical floor, surgical daycare, cardiac care and foundation staff education.

Since 2009, the First West Foundation, through its Envision Financial Community Endowment Fund, has granted the Delta Hospital Foundation $16,000 for training and capital projects. This most recent grant of $5,000 is to be used to build internal capacity and knowledge within the organization both from a leadership and fund-raising perspective.

The Highbury Foundation was founded by Peter A. Allard in 1993 to support Canadian registered charities in carrying out their goals and ambitions.

The Highbury Foundation has been involved in many special projects over the years and this most recent gift of $4,400 to purchase an anesthetic pump for the hospital's surgical daycare department will help administer pain relief medication to patients during medical procedures. Today, surgeons perform their more than 8,200 surgeries annually at Delta Hospital.

Employees from the Ladner and Tsawwassen branches of Scotiabank helped raise $4,000 at the hospital foundation's Moonlight Gala and their efforts were matched through the Team Scotia Community Program, which matches funds raised by Scotiabank employees for local causes. To date, Scotiabank has donated over $14,000 to Delta Hospital.

Warm Hearts Charitable Foundation helps foster the health and well-being of the communities served by Terasen Gas by offering employees the opportunity to take an active role in making their communities happier and healthier places. This recent gift of over $2,700 will purchase six chair alarms for the hospital's medical floor.

The alarms support patients that have a higher chance of falling due to issues such as poor vision, dementia-related diseases and osteoporosis. An alarm sounds when the patient moves and provides medical staff with a signal they need to assist the patient before any unnecessary harm occurs.

The Delta Hospital Foundation raises funds so Deltans have access to the best medical services close to home. Since 1988, the foundation has raised over $25 million.
