First and foremost, my heart goes out to the Hutchinson family. I pictured myself as a member of the Hutchinson family having to read such a letter, and it left me numb.

When the numbness subsided it left me angry, and compelled me to rebut this letter.

Serry established that he was a Salvation Army man and then asked that we all have our hearts bleed redder than a Salvation Army Christmas kettle when judging Robinson. Serry posed a lot of questions to the residents of Delta, querying us as to how we would react in a similar situation. I can't speak for all of the community, however I would like to speak for myself.

When involved in a motor vehicle accident where a human life is in jeopardy, Serry informed us the first thought of any father would be to get your children out of there. Serry went on to say Robinson was simply protecting his children from a gory accident scene.

No, as a father, my first thought would be for the well being of a human being. My second thought would be that through responsible actions my children will grow up proud calling me their father.

Serry asked us all if Robinson is being railed upon because he is of native heritage. He asked us if we, as a community, are racist. Serry is asking us had Robinson been non-native, would we have been more forgiving, less judgmental?

That is very thought provoking. Let me see. We all know there was no sentence handed down. We all know how Robinson continued to draw a full salary for the years leading up to his trial. We all know Orion Hutchinson was left to die on the side of a road by an RCMP officer.

You know what else we know, and I feel I can confidently speak for the majority of the community on this one: We know that as long as letters like yours are in existence that the healing process for the Hutchinson family may never occur.

I hope I've been able to answer some of your questions.
