Re: MLA overstates dredging role, letter to the editor, April 24

Vicki Huntington predicted in a column published in this paper on Nov. 21, 2012 that people would try to write her out of the story on the funding for dredging Ladner Harbour. If nothing else, David G. Fredricksen and the Bruce McDonald campaign have proven her right.

Huntington has always said that many groups played a role in securing funding, including the Corporation of Delta, MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay, the Ladner Sediment Group and the provincial government.

But the fact is that Huntington has also been involved from the beginning.

In April 2010 she met with the deputy minister of transportation to arrange a meeting between the ministry and the Ladner Sediment Group and impress upon the province its obligations around dredging.

In May 2011 she organized a tour of Ladner Harbour with Ladner Sediment Group members and Ministry of Transportation officials so they could see the effects of sedimentation firsthand.

Between 2009 and 2012 she attended at least 14 ministry meetings, questioned the transportation minister about dredging in the legislature four different times and co-presented to the budget committee.

Even Blair Lekstrom, the former minister of transportation, said, "I am happy that our government was able to put forward $3 million towards this [dredging] project and I want to congratulate Vicki for her hard work and cooperative approach on this file."

Next time the B.C. Liberals attempt to rewrite history, they should first ensure that Huntington's efforts are not so thoroughly documented.
