Insensitive look at poverty

I was shocked to read the Publisher's Perspective. Tom Siba has managed to insult someone in every paragraph.

I guess he thinks he is funny. Well, he is not. The issues around people in poverty are particularly offensive. To make a joke about people who live in basement suites who are poor is insensitive and unkind.

He shows his ignorance by suggesting education and hard work will lift many people out of poverty. What a simplistic solution.

Has he not thought of families who are unable to work because of an illness or our new immigrants when it is so difficult to find work when their credentials are not recognized or English is their second language?

If I had a subscription to the Optimist, I would cancel it immediately. I ask Siba to write an apology for his lack of knowledge and sensitivity.
