Re: Woman killed in Hwy. 17 crash, April 16

The recent traffic fatality at the intersection of 52nd Street and Highway 17 is regrettable. It brings to mind road and highway improvement commitments by Tsawwassen First Nation and B.C. to accommodate traffic to new TFN malls. Those improvements, if completed, might reduce the likelihood of such accidents.

Mall land leases are signed, construction has started and TFN is distributing lease proceeds to members. Malls open in two years. Increased traffic will surely result, but where’s the needed road construction?

Will TFN and B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure honour their commitments, including Delta’s request that Highway 17 improvements, including flyovers at 52nd and 56th streets, be completed in conjunction with mall opening?

It’s time for road and highway improvement announcements. Or must Delta do some forceful reminding to mitigate the traffic “insanity” councillors foresaw when learning of TFN’s plans?
