Legal speed limit should be fine for both lanes

I guess I'm going to die of old age waiting for someone to refer to the law on the subject!

Won't anybody please, given the correlation between speeders and accidents, explain to me why on Earth I should not stick to the posted speed limit, regardless of lane, but rather accommodate all the maniacs who accelerate from red light to red light, making ample use of their brakes, with the pretext of shaving a few seconds off their trip?

I know, I know, the decent thing to do is stay on the right lane but, legally, I should be able to enter the left lane when needed, without having to go over the speed limit.

My answer to tailgaters who call me 'slowpoke' because I refuse to drive faster than 10 kilometres over the legal speed limit is:

Tell someone who cares!
