Let's hope harbour redevelopment revives tourism efforts

Re: Expand Ladner's critical mass, Community

Tourism, especially in the communities of Ladner and Tsawwassen, is a subject very dear to my heart. I was pleased, therefore, to read Mark Sakai's column. Although I felt the headline was misleading, it enticed me to read on.

Some years ago, when I first became a volunteer at the Delta Chamber of Commerce (also a B.C. Visitor Information Centre), there was a Tourism Delta booth on Highway 17, close to the ferry terminal, and another near the Ladner Harbour.

Both of these venues provided student summer employment as well as a place where visitors could easily acquire information on all Delta attractions, accommodation and restaurants.

I would like to see a revival of Tourism Delta, something I feel would benefit both Ladner and Tsawwassen businesses.

Tsawwassen may not have a winery or an official bird sanctuary as does Ladner, but it is blessed with dike access, bountiful bird life, Boundary Bay Regional Park and Earthwise Garden. These should be promoted along with Ladner's attractions.

I hope the Ladner Harbour revitalization will be the impetus to organizing something similar to Tourism Delta.
