An open letter to New Westminster city council:
We are a boating community, and without access to the Quay, we find ourselves boating and mooring at the Gillnetter or Steveston for lunch and dinner and shopping. We go for lunch with our friends, who also have boats and always say how sad we can’t moor and go for lunch in New West.
Indeed, canoes and kayaks don’t have a chance with the currents; however, bigger pleasure craft do.
There is a lot of boat traffic on the river that would take full advantage of the opportunity to moor for a few hours or even an overnight transient boat parking.
Steveston does this very well, especially summer months. Steveston draws an amazing crowd to moor and dine.
Please consider this very important community and tourist opportunity for New West. Sad if you don’t.
