Letter: Upside down reality

"People in positions of privilege who bully other more vulnerable folks sometimes portray themselves as victims."

One of the tactics of the far right is to describe reality upside down.

People in positions of privilege who bully other more vulnerable folks sometimes portray themselves as victims. Sometimes they justify their efforts to shout down those they disagree with by claiming freedom of speech. Freedom of screech, more like it. Women are more likely than men to be targets of such harassment.

In attacking acting City of Powell River mayor Rob Southcott's perfectly reasonable promise to have hecklers and disrupters removed from the audience [in council chambers] when duly elected councillors are discussing city business, Roger Whittaker [“Viewpoint: Powell River Council should get back to the basics,” April 25] is not defending democracy. He is advocating mob rule.
