Editor:

I am fortunate enough to have one amazing neighbour, Alana Hurford.

Recently employed at the Delta Hospital, her efforts in the administrative role as PPC nurse helped our family and many others through the hospital system.

This spring, that wasn’t enough. She wanted to tackle COVID-19. She signed up to work with Fraser Health to do more COVID testing. That recently turned into overseeing the massive pop up vaccination clinics in Surrey.

I see Alana leaving in the wee hours of the morning and returning well into the evening…. 12-to-14-hour days. The goal has been to vaccinate 1,000 people a day. One long day two days ago, she and her staff pushed the effort and vaccinated 2,200 people in one day.

Alana is a resident of Ladner and she treks into danger zones each and every day, to help keep us safe.

She is my hometown hero and a Class A Health Professional.
