Letters: How ‘free’ are these free trees?

I very much object to this frivolous waste of my rising tax dollars to pay for “free trees” for a select few.

The city has launched Planting our roots – free tree project, an initiative to distribute a total of 500 trees to Delta residents at no cost — 250 in the spring and another 250 in the fall, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Editor:

I read with interest in the March 21 edition of the Optimist that the City of Delta is giving away “free trees” to 500 lucky residents.

Nothing in life is free, my parents taught me, so who is ultimately paying for these free trees for a select few? Delta taxpayers of course, and not only the trees free, but the lucky recipients will also have their trees delivered to their home for free. More tax dollars being abused.

All tax dollars belong to all residents of Delta and should be used for the benefit of all, not frivolously used to enhance a handful of properties. If residents want to beautify their back yards, they can pay for their own trees.

I very much object to this frivolous waste of my rising tax dollars to pay for “free trees” for a select few. There are many more important pressing areas these tax dollars could do good for all Deltans.
