Letters: Infrastructure upgrades first then housing

I received with interest a letter in the mail from the City of Delta regarding the provincial housing targets and changes to Delta’s Official Community Plan.

While I understand that there is indeed a problem with access to affordable housing in the province, I also wonder about the following issues.

During the past 20 years or so the citizens of Delta have been asking for an upgrade or alternate to the Massey Tunnel. A cool architectural model was built and put on display at City Hall, but we have yet to see a soil breaking ceremony. Meanwhile, the only recently announced upgrade to the Patullo Bridge just down the river is going well.

Further, appeals to the offices like the Ministry of Health to build a local Urgent Primary Care Clinic that would provide medical services to the residents of Delta have gone unheard or deemed unworthy. And upgrades to our local hospital seem to only occur when citizens open their wallets. Meanwhile, more than 5,000 people in our fair city go without a primary care physician.

I could go on, but I think the point I am making is: how about mayor and council ask the provincial government to deliver up some much need services to the people who currently live in this city? After that happens then maybe we talk about densification.
