The Four Winds project is widely supported and anticipated here in Tsawwassen, and is a fantastic anchor to Southlands from a highly respected local family business. It's rejection by Delta council was very disappointing and inconsistent with Delta’s approvals of other large projects requiring OCP changes.

The Change.org petition started by Dan Patching demanding Delta council alter its decision has received over 5,000 signatures in only a few days. One wonders if Mayor George Harvie and councillors Dan Copeland, Jeannie Kanakos and Bruce McDonald are surprised to discover how out of touch they are with the South Delta community and their constituents in this?

A bigger question is whether they have the political courage and accountability to rectify their mistake? Delta’s procedures bylaw allows that any one of those voting negative can rescind or reverse their decision as long as they do it at the next council meeting on April 29.

This is a test, really. Is this council equipped to deal with the communication and political reality of today’s Delta or is it stuck – like its community development policies and vision – in a time that has clearly passed?

Will this mayor and these councillors do the right thing for South Delta on April 29?
