The Delta Foundation is the only community foundation for Delta. It is part of a worldwide movement of foundations helping build stronger and more vibrant communities. It is a member of Community Foundations of Canada, a network of more than 191 community foundations across the country and over 1,900 around the world.
The Delta Optimist is the only professional journalism organization serving the Delta community. As such, the newspaper provides the objective filter of news and features to keep local residents informed so they can participate in the democratic process of directing their own community.
That journalistic role is vital to the work of the Delta Foundation in serving the local community.
For instance, the Delta Foundation needs to learn about and identify local community needs so that people can collaborate and define the scope and nature of those needs requiring support.
We also need to appeal to donors who wish to start or continue making meaningful and lasting contributions to the well-being of their community by fulfilling their charitable goals and maximizing their tax advantages.
Finally, we need to make grants to support charitable organizations that provide programs and services where there is need in the community, as individuals and organizations work together to effect positive change in the community in areas such as shelter, education and care for those in need, to the arts, environment and recreation.
The role of the Delta Optimist is vital in reporting on the community's needs, the impact of, and value to, the community, of grants through donations and endowment funds by generous donors in our community through the Delta Foundation and on the opportunities that local charities need to know are available.
Thank you to the provincial and national award-winning Delta Optimist for the recognized high standard of journalistic reporting and editorial comment which make Delta the strong and vibrant community that it is.
