Delta park shouldn’t be turned over to mayor’s ‘buddies’

I just read the article about Delta building a cricket pitch in Delview Park. Where was the public consultation? That is my neighbourhood park.

We fought and waited for that off-leash enclosure for years. Ken Kuntz can attest to that. Yes, it’s small but it’s the only one in Delta with a fence. It is used all the time by everyone in the neighbourhood with a dog. To say it’s never used is not true.

So on a whim the mayor has decided that a few of his buddies can have the entire park for themselves? How fair is that?

As it stands, it’s a small park. There is a section on the south side with nice big trees and picnic tables along with a lacrosse box. The trees had better not be disturbed as there are so few left in this community.

There is a limited amount of parkland left in Delta, and very few large conifers. We can’t afford to lose any more. Cutting them down and replacing them with spindly shrubs is not acceptable.

And you can say goodbye to the grass as cricket chews up the terrain something fierce. I hope you’ve got a large budget for maintaining the field, George.
