After many years of contention, Century Group received approval to build 950 “housing units” in a former farmed area they called the Southlands. Now Four Winds and Century Group are attempting to amend the initial approval to the housing development.

Kevin Klassen states that Gibsons has a brewing company but neglects to mention exact location. It is not located in a housing development. The same goes for Powell River and Port Moody. Not one is located in a housing development.

Yes, Port Moody has some brewing companies located across the road from a park and is easily accessed from the park but the same would not be true for people visiting Boundary Bay Regional Park. This park is not within easy walking distance to the housing development nor would it be the reason people visit the park.

The majority of visitors are young families on a picnic, to set up barbecues, swim, relax, walk, etc. This activity takes place from June to late September and then the park has limited visitors, mostly those out running or walking but not to visit a brewing company.

Mayor George Harvie’s ”no” vote was correct in not approving establishment of a brewing company in a housing development. An industrial complex in a housing development area is totally against the plan and could open the door for others requesting identical approval based on Four Winds submission if it was to be approved.

I’m sure Century Group could find Four Winds a suitable location in the town centre as this would attract more individuals to a diminishing town core.
