It was another successful Canada Day at Kirkland House, Hawthorne Grove, in Ladner.

Colin Campbell, chair of the volunteer board, noted this is the 20th year of celebrating this special day and the 19th year the Delta Police Pipe Band has been in attendance. That’s quite the record.

Thanks to the City of Delta and the Kirkland House volunteers for having lots of entertainment for the whole family. Thanks to the Kirkland Scouts for serving lunch to many; to the police presence to assist as needed; to Chief Neil Dubord for making sure the VIPs, MP Carla Qualtrough, MLA Ian Paton Mayor George Harvie arrived in a timely manner.

Campbell was able to pay the annual rent of $1 to Harvie, so the Kirkland House volunteers could “continue to have fun.”

Thanks to the entertainers: Daryle Sherman, tech, keyboard and vocals; Damian, guitar and vocals; Howard Solverson who took us on a cross country tour in song — a song for each of our 10 provinces; Julian Neufeld, O Canada, vocal and guitar; and his little brother Michael who sang the French version of O Canada.
