Four years ago South Delta's voters elected Vicki Huntington to be their independent MLA for the district in what was essentially a protest vote, spawned by a justifiable feeling that the government of the day did not care about the issues that concerned Delta's residents.

But things have changed. Have you noticed that in the past year South Delta has hosted the premier and numerous cabinet ministers? The government has committed to solve the biggest single issue facing South Delta, gridlock at and around the George Massey Tunnel.

Transportation Minister Mary Polak visited with Bruce McDonald last Friday to renew to him the government's commitment to fix this problem as quickly as proper planning would allow.

Based upon current polls showing the B.C. Liberals rapidly gaining on the NDP, no one can confidently predict which of the two major parties will form the next government.

However, we can confidently predict that if Huntington is returned to Victoria this time around, South Delta will remain on the outside of provincial power looking in.

I would prefer to take my

chances with McDonald, who at least has a chance of being part of the governing team that has committed to a new or improved Fraser River crossing.
