The government of Canada is committed to recognizing and commemorating important anniversaries in our military history, and honouring the service and sacrifices of those who served.

On Remembrance Day, to mark the 75th anniversary of Canada's engagement in the Second World War, I was pleased to present veterans of the Second World War from Ladner and Tsawwassen with a special commemorative lapel pin and certificate of recognition as a special thank-you for their service.

Mitchell, Leslie Nelson, Gordon Neuert, Herbert Poile, Edward St. Godard, Roy Sobotin, George Tanner, Elsie Turecki, Thomas Waithe, Eric West, Peggy Walton, Nairn Peter McConachie, and Eric Worthington.

Additionally, recognized from the Tsawwassen Legion were: Ron Bryce, Jack Emmett, Phil Frewer, Laughlan C. Laurie, Ron McGee, Bob Harris, Lloyd W. Jones, Bill Martin, Robert G. Askin, Joseph L. Bagg, Walter P.

Canadians who served at least one day with Canadian forces or any other Allied force, including the Canadian or British Merchant Navy, either at home or abroad, during the Second World War and were living on Sept. 10, 2014, are eligible to receive this special tribute lapel pin and certificate.

This year, our government is marking a number of commemorative events, and will do so throughout the coming years as part of the World Wars Commemoration period, taking place 2014 to 2020.
