We read with great interest an article in the Vancouver Sun regarding the city of Port Moody under the leadership of Mayor Joe Trasolini. The article states that during the past 12 years the city's population has grown by 40 per cent but its focus on multi-family development has limited urban sprawl and earned the city the reputation as a leader in sustainable practices.

Just think what Tsawwassen could have if Century Group is given the OK to develop its latest proposal. What a proud legacy for the people of South Delta with so much of it farmland, forest, a farm market square and three new parks with a diversity of housing units.

Of course the alternative, if development is denied, is to turn it into farmland. One only has to read the recent front page article of the Optimist where it was stated the spreading of chicken manure is considered "normal farm practice" and "is exempt from local nuisance bylaws under the Provincial Farm Practices Protection Act."

Let's hope the community, as well as the mayor and council, will be behind Century's proposal.
