Another coffee shop in Tsawwassen? We only have 11 coffee shops at the moment. Do we really need another one, especially a drive-thru, one of the least environmentally friendly types of establishment?
We have two Starbucks in Tsawwassen already, neither of which is a drive-thru (thank goodness).
I don't drink coffee but sometimes meet friends at the Windsor Woods location for tea (in a reusable cup, by the way).
I often see numbers of customers waiting for up
to five minutes for their high-end coffees. If a customer waits in his or her car for five minutes (as could happen at the proposed Starbucks location), this becomes an idling issue, something we know is harmful for the environment.
As an aside, I cannot help but notice the number of single-use coffee cups and the plastic lids that are used for a few minutes, discarded and sitting in waste cans outside of both Starbucks.
I applaud Coun. Jeannie Kanakos for voting against the drive-thru proposal at a recent Delta council meeting. It is time that Delta has an anti-idling bylaw, similar to one that's in place in Vancouver.
If Delta is serious about helping the environment, this proposal for a drive-thru Starbucks on Springs Boulevard should be abandoned.
I urge people to contact council on this subject. It is project No. 8 at the Feb. 19 public hearing and comments must be in by 4: 30 on that same date.
This application is followed by project No. 9, an application for redevelopment of the old Harris Nursery site. Many people may not be aware of this application either.
