There have been several power-related incidents in Tsawwassen this month.

One power outage was caused by a fire at the top of a power pole near 18th Avenue and 56th Street. Another incident was due to a power pole on 55A Street being damaged by strong wind during the night. The police were called to close down 55A Street until B.C. Hydro could attend to the issue.

These power poles are all located in proximity to our Northgate project site, however, the outages have not been caused by construction activity. Unitech, our construction manager, was proactive in notifying local police and B.C. Hydro to protect the safety of the workers on site, as well as the neighbours, during these incidents. Construction progress has been affected.

B.C. Hydro has tried to respond promptly to fix the problems, however the power poles around the area have aged and will require continuous and extensive maintenance.

We have contacted B.C. Hydro and inquired about upgrading the power poles in this area.

We believe that undergrounding power lines will be the solution to improve the quality of the neighbourhood, ensure public safety and reduce power outages in the future.
