Outpouring at cenotaph proves to be an uplifting experience

Once again the planners and organizers of the Ladner Remembrance Day ceremony are to be thanked for their selfless contribution to our wonderful community.

Honestly, it was a bit of a tougher day than normal for retired Canadian Forces members like myself, as I'm sure it was for many after the disgraceful and cowardly attacks on our serving personnel in the past month.

What an uplifting experience it was to be surrounded by so many members of our community, young and old.

I did have one slightly jarring moment when a police officer in full tactical gear passed me. While I fully expected to see police officers at the ceremony, I did not expect to see such an overt show of force.

Although I fully support the decision to increase security around the ceremony this year, I'm not sure the overt presence of tactical unit officers was necessary.

I'm hopeful that in future, our excellent police service will deem this type of display unnecessary.
