Revised plan is improvement over original one

I attended last Thursday's information meeting on the Marina Gardens development. It was well attended with standing room only for around 200 people. Civic staff and representatives from Captain's Cove Marina and Polygon were aplenty.

Many display boards and a brief PowerPoint laid out the reality of this proposal: It cannot be stopped. The original plan was approved back in 1996 and this is only a revision that is before Delta council.

The revision is an improvement over the original plan as there is no longer a hotel or large commercial section.

Even the number of living units is 70 less than the original plan.

I personally like this plan as it is being done with a quality developer and it will revitalize the whole area for all of Ladner to enjoy. Like I've said before, it's our own little Cote d'Azur.

I'm sorry they nixed the rental housing as Ladner badly needs this.

So here's the reality check: If Delta council denies this application, Polygon walks. The Chan family hires another developer that comes in and goes with the original plan: a hotel, a big commercial area and maximum density. They don't need any public process as it was approved back in 1996.

Hotels like to do conventions and many choose to bring in slot machines for added revenue. Yep, it could so very easily go down this road.

If we are worried about traffic with this proposal just imagine that one. We need to appreciate the consequences of our responses on this one.
