Sherwin keeping issue alive as he seeks school bus solution

As you are aware, the school bus transportation has recently been terminated for students of these two schools, as well as others in Delta. For many of us this would not pose a problem, as older students can potentially walk, take transit, cycle or perhaps carpool, if enough parents can partake.

For some reason, however, there is no public bus running up Boundary Bay Road between 7:20 a.m. and 9:20 a.m., and therefore this is not an option. Also, there are no sidewalks on Boundary Bay Road, being particularly narrow on some corners, and hazardous for all pedestrians and cyclists.

Yes, there is the alternate dike trail, but even this old broad finds it a bit treacherous and a little scary to ride in the dark as part of my regular commute. I'm sure few parents of younger students would feel comfortable sending their children the five kilometres on any of these three routes.

Lucky for us, the 'Bay has Brad Sherwin, who continues to work endlessly with parents, the school board, Corporation of Delta, TransLink and the provincial government to search for a transportation solution for these students and families.

Although Coun. Bruce McDonald and school board chair Laura Dixon have finally come on board to assist, if it weren't for Sherwin, I'm sure the issue would have died a quiet death.

Thank you, Brad, your efforts are greatly appreciated.
