Shore power also needed in Delta

Editor: Port Metro Vancouver's new TV ad brags about the shore power installation at Canada Place in Vancouver. It is great Canada Place has shore power but I doubt the City of Vancouver or the residents of Coal Harbour would put up with noise and air pollution in the heart of Vancouver.

The citizens of Delta deserve shore power for the same reasons Vancouver requires shore power. It is a disgrace and a total disrespect to Delta residents that Port Metro Vancouver has not dealt with the shore power situation at Deltaport.

I recently attended a public meeting hosted by Port Metro Vancouver at the Delta Town & Country Inn. Spokespeople had very little to say about the Deltaport shore power deficiency and indicated a two-or threeyear timeline to address the issue.

Of course that means there is no plan to address this terrible situation caused by Port Metro Vancouver in Delta.

Needless to say, I take issue with the port's TV ad and classify it as propaganda. Once it takes care of the shore power issue at all ports within its jurisdiction, please take credit where credit is due. Until that time, the port might think about toning down the rhetoric and deal with the problem in a professional manner.

The port continues to operate its terminal in Delta like we are a Third World country. If shore power is good enough for Vancouver, then it's good enough for Delta and the other port facilities throughout the Lower Mainland.

Now you know the rest of the story.
