Silent group must speak up on Southlands

I've been a resident of South Delta for over 25 years, having moved to Tsawwassen from Vancouver in the late 1980s during the lengthy public hearings over the Spetifore (farm) land, now known as the Southlands. As a newcomer to the area, I listened with interest but had no specific opinion about the situation.

I now live in Ladner and recently visited the Southlands display cottage and attended the public information session. I applaud Sean Hodgins and the Century Group for their diligent work in altering the project after listening to the many concerns by residents in the community.

While I respect those with opposing views, I support this project. I encourage others like myself who are not opposed to the development but have been non-committal, to let Delta council know they support the application.

I believe there is a large, silent group that could make it clear to council that an opposition group stating it has "the facts" does not represent the majority of residents. We should not miss the opportunity for input believing that the outcome is already determined.

Options to remain in the community as we age depend on this decision. It appears Hodgins has not only inherited his father's keen business sense but also the ability to foresee the needs of not just a select few residents but the many who share a desire to live in a healthy, thriving community.

I hope Hodgins' respectful and inclusive business approach serves him well.
